Supa Ape is a jungle producer whose own Supa Records imprint puts melody and cinematic ideas alongside the familiar breakbeats. Based in Sheffield, the label was established to release his compositions, giving him a home for music that keeps the drums central without leaving everything else to samples.
The Odyssey EP appeared in 2021, followed later that year by Pleasure Seekers / Uptown, the label’s first physical release. Those records joined earlier appearances through UK Jungle, Satta Sounds, and Scared Money, extending a catalogue already connected with independent jungle labels.
The second Supa Records vinyl release, Values / Sometimes I Wonder, arrived in 2022. Its release notes describe two different approaches: choppy breaks and a bassline drawing on four-to-the-floor music on one side, then a more cinematic arrangement that holds back before the Amen break arrives on the other.
Later releases include Never Never EP and Algorithm EP. Across that run, Supa Ape has used his own label to develop the balance between melody, atmosphere, and the energy of jungle drums, with singles and longer releases giving those ideas different amounts of space.
