Twisted Individual is Lee Greenaway, a drum and bass producer whose jump-up records put mischief right alongside the bassline. Tracks such as Gimp Mask, Pull My Finger, and Rusty Sheriff’s Badge made the joke obvious before the needle even touched the record. The rough, immediate sound behind those titles became just as recognisable.
Born in Croydon, he began releasing music through Formation Records in the late 1990s and later moved to Leicester. Working with DJ SS put him close to a busy label and touring circuit, while his own Grid Recordings grew into a home for producers sharing his appetite for direct, underground drum and bass.
His records were never simply a matter of choosing a funny name and finding a wobble. Speaking to UKF, he described writing chords, building his own samples, and looking for the raw character that first drew him to dance music. He also acknowledged how a recognisable style could become a box, with listeners expecting the same thing every time.
After stepping away in 2012 to concentrate on family and work outside music, he returned in 2017. Grid continued to develop around him, releasing work from producers including Serum and Heist. That label history sits alongside his own records: a long involvement in jump-up, built through making music and giving other producers somewhere to release theirs.
