Boymerang is the drum and bass project associated with Graham Sutton, also known for his work in Bark Psychosis. It began as a partnership with Daniel Gish before Sutton carried it forward alone. The move into breakbeat production gave him a different way to work with rhythm and atmosphere from the band’s recordings.
The project also marked the beginning of The Leaf Label. Its first release was the Boymerang EP, issued in 1995, with Pro-Activ following in the label’s early catalogue. Leaf’s own history puts that first record at the centre of how the imprint started, long before it developed its broader reputation across electronic and experimental music.
Balance Of The Force arrived in 1997 through Regal. The album brought together tracks including Soul Beat Runna, Mind Control, and Urban Space, with Sutton writing and producing the material. It remains the main album-length introduction to Boymerang, rather than a collection of music made under the Bark Psychosis name.
In his contemporary AllMusic review, Sean Cooper placed part of the album alongside techstep while also noting its vocals and rhythmic detail. The description captures something of the space Sutton was working in: music that belonged to the developing drum and bass scene, while retaining room for the atmosphere and experimentation heard elsewhere in his work. Balance of the Force is the fullest record of that period under the Boymerang name.
