Calyx & TeeBee developed their partnership after meeting as Moving Shadow labelmates in 1998. Both had established solo catalogues before their first collaborations emerged in 2004. Working together brought the precision of those separate careers into a shared project, eventually leading to Anatomy and their own Momentum Music imprint.
The follow-up, All or Nothing, arrived through RAM Records in 2012 after years of work. In their conversations with UKF, the pair described albums as an opportunity to show more variety than a single club track allows. Vocals became part of that approach, including Calyx’s own singing, while their joint DJ performances grew into a setup using six decks and two mixers.
That interest in songwriting continued beyond All or Nothing. Long Gone combined Calyx’s vocals with guitar, while the pair described Snakes & Ladders as an exploration of the playful side of jump-up. Their willingness to move between approaches also came with a reluctance to be pinned to one genre label: TeeBee told UKF that they wanted to explore drum and bass across its wider spectrum.
Plates, released in 2022, put dubplate culture at the centre of the project. Tracks were tested across club sets before appearing as individual releases, with the album bringing together pieces including War Dub, Warehouse Days, and Anything for Attention. It returned to the way their music developed through DJ use while retaining the broader production and songwriting experience of the intervening years.
