Concord Dawn Drum and Bass Artist Image

Concord Dawn began in New Zealand as the partnership of Matt Harvey and Evan Short. Founded in 1999, the project released its self-titled debut in 2000 before developing an album catalogue that included Disturbance, Uprising, and Chaos By Design. Harvey later continued under the name as a solo producer.

Uprising, released in 2003, contains Morning Light, rather than the earlier Disturbance. Its tracklist also brings in Scribe on Get Ready, Tiki on Don’t Tell Me, and Optiv on Zulu / Quattro. Those vocal and production connections give a more specific account of the record than its enduring reputation alone.

Harvey’s approach remained open to sounds beyond drum and bass. Discussing The Fuzz with Drum&BassArena in 2014, he explained how guitar pedals and synth processing helped him pursue a grunge-inspired texture. He wanted heavy music built around groove, with drums that retained a live feel rather than excessive processing.

In 2023, Harvey announced the Last Hurrah tour and explained to Undertheradar that artist management was taking more of his time. The farewell plans included Short joining him for the 95bFM fundraiser. Harvey also distinguished retiring the project’s live activity from abandoning the studio, where he still enjoyed making music.
