Droptek is British producer Lewis Munns, whose move from dubstep towards drum and bass became the focus of his debut album Symbiosis. Released through Korsakov Music in 2019, the eighteen-track record took two years to make and gave him room to rethink both his writing and his sound.
His first attempts at production had actually been drum and bass. An opportunity with Monstercat took him into dubstep and electro house, and those early releases became his introduction to a wider audience. Returning to faster music was therefore a return to an old interest, even as it meant learning new ways to work.
Halftime was an important part of that change. Tracks such as Invoke and Revolver let him explore the swing and movement he had wanted from dubstep, alongside the more technical full-tempo material on the album. He wrote the record without a label in mind, only presenting it to Korsakov once the project had developed.
The process also brought him closer to other producers. Through Vorso, he joined a group where artists could exchange ideas and give each other feedback. After years of working mostly alone, that conversation became another source of encouragement as he pushed his production further.
