Behind the music

About Eksman.

Eksman is a drum and bass MC and promoter whose career began on pirate radio in the mid-1990s. Live performance has remained central to his work, with a parallel interest in creating opportunities for other artists. His Next Hype events developed as a platform where emerging DJs and MCs could gain experience, alongside his own appearances on stages and radio.

In 2019 he was part of Problem Central, joining Majistrate, Logan D, and Evil B for a project that brought DJs and vocalists together as a group. Speaking about his work at the time, Eksman identified the relationship between a crowd, a track, and a lyric as the part of performing that continued to excite him. He also stressed the practical importance of engineers understanding what an MC needs to hear on stage.

Another collaboration developed closer to home. His son J Mulla began recording and performing with him, and the pair built a rehearsed showcase under the name MTM, meaning More Than Music. Their approach combined original songs with live MCing, rather than relying entirely on unrehearsed exchanges. In a joint interview, Eksman discussed helping his son develop breath control, confidence, and crowd communication. His Eksman Presents Next Hype radio programme continues that connection between established experience and new drum and bass talent.

His recorded collaborations include the 2023 Hedex single MHITR (Semi-Automatic) [feat. Eksman], on which he is credited as both composer and vocalist.
