Drum & Bass Artist Profile, Discography & Events

Murdock Drum and Bass Artist Image

Murdock is Hans Machiels, the Belgian DJ and producer who founded Rampage and Rampage Recordings. His work in drum and bass spans records, events, and label development, with Radar Records another part of that history. Rampage began in 2009, and the recordings imprint followed in 2017. Those organisational roles sit alongside a studio career with releases on V Recordings and Viper Recordings.

His debut album Stronger, released in 2019, was intended to represent the range of music he wanted to make. Speaking to UKF, he traced his route from hip-hop through breakbeat house, electro, and techno into jungle, with the Full Cycle sound drawing him further into drum and bass. Working with Roni Size on Double Dutch made that connection explicit. The album also includes Make Me Stronger with Jenna G and Holding On with James Marvel.

Murdock’s own account of those recordings is more varied than a single style label suggests. In Magnetic Magazine, he described a liquid-funk direction for Make Me Stronger and an attempt to combine neurofunk with the atmosphere of older Good Looking records on Juno Horizon. His Different Way jungle mix with Errol Dunkley reworked a reggae vocal around jungle breaks and dub elements. V Recordings likewise described the tracks on I Need a Riddim / Hypnotize as junglist rollers. These are specific recording choices, giving the production catalogue its own identity alongside the scale of his events.
