Run Tingz Cru are a Bristol jungle collective whose records put reggae singers and MCs at the centre of the dance. Ed Garrett, known as G.Tactix, and Parker, known as LXP, built the operation around production, performances, and the Run Tingz Recordings and Run Tingz Digital labels.
Serial Killaz helped them develop the music and the business behind it. The aim was to make original jungle with vocalists rather than rely entirely on bootlegs, bringing in Top Cat, Tenor Fly, David Boomah, and Blackout JA. Born Inna Babylon, Murder Ya Sound, and It’s a Junglist Ting grew from those relationships.
The collective has room for different production styles. In their RavingFox interview, they described Selecta J-Man and Ricky Tuff as bringing contrasting approaches that still belonged together as jungle. Remix projects then gave the earlier vocal recordings another life, with the familiar voices returning over new rhythms.
Fully Loaded expanded the live side, bringing drummer Tom Derryman, guitarist Jonny Evans, and vocalist Doubla J into a band recording. It reflects an interest that runs through Run Tingz: a record can work in a DJ set, but the people behind its rhythm and vocal can also take it onto a stage.
