Simula makes drum and bass that leaves plenty of space for something unpleasant to creep in. His early jump-up tracks, including Introvert and Ravioli, established the blunt force of his basslines; later music kept that physical impact while becoming darker and more stripped back. The change was gradual, with records such as Blood Worm and Angels opening up a different side of his sound.
In 2020 he launched Neksus Sound with Annix, giving their shared taste for technical jump-up a home of its own. The first release, Diagram, brought both acts together with K Motionz. Running the label also gave Simula control over the artwork and presentation, making the visual identity part of the music rather than something added afterwards.
That work fed into his debut album, Dogma, in 2023. He had considered an album for years, but waited until the music and its identity felt ready. Speaking to UKF, he described taking a darker, minimal route while keeping some jump-up flavour: a description that brings both strands of the catalogue together.
Much of his writing begins on a laptop away from the studio, with the final detail worked through later. For all the precision in the finished tracks, he still values the raw, instinctive reaction that first drew him to jump-up.
