Winslow brings a musician’s ear and a teacher’s curiosity to drum and bass. Raised in St. Louis and now based in Glasgow, he began producing house and trance before finding a stronger connection with D&B. Hearing Keeno helped make that connection: as an orchestral string player, he recognised familiar musical ideas in a different setting.
His tracks put particular emphasis on groove and swing, with influences extending through hip-hop, soul, funk, gospel and jazz. Early music for Goldfat Records included Swing & Miss and Snap Out Of It, with Mitekiss helping him see the promise in ideas he had struggled to finish. Winslow also added his own rapping when a track needed a vocal.
Releases for Soulvent Records, Spearhead Records, Must Make Music and Hospital Records followed. His work has appeared on the Forza Horizon soundtracks, taking those musical ideas to listeners outside the usual clubs and festivals.
His production videos grew from wanting lessons he could not find himself. Rather than stopping at how to create one sound, he explores what to do with an idea, how to arrange it and why particular choices work. That interest in understanding music runs through the records too: the rhythm leads, while instruments and unexpected details leave room for his own personality.
