BMotion is Ben Williams from Pontypool in South Wales. A jazz-pianist father, drum playing and time in metal bands gave him a musical grounding before Pendulum introduced a different possibility. He initially kept that interest quiet among his metal friends, then spent nights searching for more drum and bass.
Studying music technology brought production software into reach. He won Knowledge Magazine’s unsigned producer competition in 2012 with Get Up, followed by releases on Rush Records and Soulvent Records, including Circles. Demos eventually reached Futurebound, leading to an exclusive signing with Viper Recordings in 2014.
His Viper debut paired Feelings with Something, Something, while Discotheque brought Chords into the studio. Bear Hug in 2015 showed a heavier side, backed by the brighter, funkier Vice City. It was a useful introduction to the contrast in his music: the bass could be blunt, but the melodies still had a place.
When Viper first shared Bear Hug without naming its producer, listeners guessed several established artists before anyone identified BMotion. The finished track came after he reworked an earlier idea inspired by late-1990s and early-2000s D&B. His later catalogue, including The Focus and Slap Suey, carries that taste for direct club impact alongside the musical ideas that started him off.
