Commix is the drum and bass project continued by George Levings, following its earlier years as a group. Its best-known album, Call to Mind, was made by Levings and Guy Brewer and released through Metalheadz in 2007.
The record includes 'Be True' and 'Belleview', combining the project's melodic side with darker club material. It became a reference point for Commix's subsequent work, but the producers later stepped away when they felt their methods were no longer leading to something new.
Levings returned to Commix as a solo artist after exploring techno under the name Endian. He has described that period as a chance to change equipment, listen more widely, and find different textures, rather than simply reproduce the sound of the earlier album.
His production preferences include analogue equipment and the audible imperfections of a studio. He has spoken about valuing the roughness of early hip-hop and resisting the urge to polish every detail away. That approach also allows music intended for listening outside clubs: his interest in drum and bass includes its atmosphere and sound design, alongside tracks built for a DJ set.
