Sampling sits at the centre of Furney’s drum and bass. He listens across genres for phrases with a particular mood and key, taking inspiration from the way the Avalanches assemble music from many different sources. In his Soul Deep interview, he described that process as bringing the music he loves into drum and bass.
His first release for Creative Wax, Mowabi and Cosmique, arrived in September 2014. Mooderama and Deep Is Deep followed in May 2015, continuing his liquid drum and bass work.
The Evolve album gave that approach a longer format on Soul Deep Recordings. Furney credited the label’s Scott Allen with supporting his writing and giving him the freedom to make music without worrying about commercial appeal.
