High Contrast is the recording and DJ alias of Welsh producer Lincoln Barrett. Emerging from Cardiff, he developed a drum and bass sound in which melody and vocal material sit alongside the pace and detail of the drums.
His debut album, True Colours, arrived in 2002, followed by High Society in 2004. Those records provide a starting point for a catalogue that has moved between soulful songs, club tracks, and more explicit returns to jungle. His 2020 album Notes From The Underground explored the latter, drawing on the music that first brought him into the genre.
Collaboration has also allowed him to work outside his usual habits. Discussing Don't Need You, made with Bou, Barrett described the value of bringing together contrasting musical instincts. Their connection began at Let It Roll, and the sessions gave him an opportunity to work more spontaneously with another producer.
Barrett's work extends to remixes, including recordings by Adele, London Grammar, and Jorja Smith.
In October 2024, he released Restoration, a 12-track album including Remember Me and Be No Rain. It followed the jungle-focused Notes From The Underground.
