Insomniax began as the partnership of Renzo (Damien Fellows) and Freshold (Oliver Millin), two producers from south-west England with roots in the 1990s rave scene. They joined Viper Recordings in 2014, making their label debut with Digital Murder before further releases and collaborations developed the project.
Their Viper catalogue includes Uridium / Longest Night, Crying Rain / Facehugger, and Gravitron. They also worked with Six Blade on Contact. The music covers different approaches within drum and bass, from darker, more forceful records to material shaped by rolling breaks and jungle.
That latter strand became the focus of V7 Saxon Street in 2019. Although released as Insomniax, the series was Millin’s solo exploration of the music that drew him to raving at The Sanctuary in Milton Keynes. He told UKF he wanted to revisit the breaks, jungle, and rollers that shaped him, while continuing the wider partnership. In 2020, Insomniax joined Miss Trouble for Elements, a collaboration that Viper described as combining neuro and jungle elements.
