Kove is British producer James Rockhill. His catalogue includes drum and bass and house, with melodic writing connecting those different tempos. Before electronic production became his focus, he grew up playing guitar and received a classical musical education. For In From The Cold, he deliberately returned to raw, club-focused drum and bass, drawing on the music that had first brought him into the genre.
Early releases through Viper Recordings led to an association with MTA Records, the label founded by Chase & Status. His music includes the Melissa Steel collaboration Way We Are and the 2017 In From The Cold EP. The latter returned the emphasis to drum and bass after a period away from releasing, giving listeners a useful point of entry alongside the vocal singles.
In a DJ Times interview, Rockhill recalled moving to London and hearing drum and bass properly in a club at a RAM night at Fabric. The combination of energy and melody in music by Sub Focus and Chase & Status helped shape his approach. He had come to electronic music after years of guitar playing and classical study, making the connection between a memorable melody and the physical impact of the rhythm particularly important. Those experiences give the recordings a practical musician's context: the attraction was not simply a new tempo, but a way of bringing musical ideas into a club setting.
