Aperio is a York producer drawn to the musical side of drum and bass, with deep melodies and enough groove to keep the records working in a club. His father’s piano-recording software first gave him a way to experiment, making childhood hip-hop beats before house, dubstep and D&B took their turns.
His sister’s record choices helped introduce him to drum and bass, while studying in Leeds brought him closer to the nights and producers behind it. Hearing Calibre and Lenzman strengthened his interest in deep, rolling liquid, alongside the earlier influence of Logistics and Etherwood.
Collaborations with longtime friend Monrroe helped put his music into the RAM Records catalogue. Seeing one of those tracks on a compilation in HMV became a memorable milestone: his parents sent a photo from the shop in York. Music for Program, Shogun Audio and Soulvent Records followed within a growing network of Leeds producers.
The North Star EP, released on Galacy in 2018, gave him four tracks together without guest artists. On Seattle Sunrise, a piano sample and Rhodes playing carried the idea, with fewer elements than he usually used. Seasons Changing offers another early introduction to the balance he enjoys: welcoming melodies for new listeners, with the deeper D&B character left intact.
