Fred V

Fred V is a drum and bass producer and DJ from Devon whose solo music combines melodic songwriting with club production. His earlier work as one half of Fred V & Grafix established the partnership that preceded the two artists' separate careers.

His debut solo album, Radiate, was released through Hospital Records in 2021. It gave him space to develop his own musical identity, with vocal songs forming part of the catalogue rather than a separate departure from drum and bass.

The second album, Luminous, followed in 2024. Fred wanted more music he could play in his own DJ sets, so he changed the way he began many tracks: instead of building from the introduction towards the drop, he started with the drop and worked backwards.

Vocal collaborations called for another approach, with the songwriting taking priority before the surrounding production. The album included work with Hybrid Minds and singer Lottie Jones. Those different ways of writing explain the balance in his solo work: melody remains central, while the demands of performing the tracks in clubs also influence how they are built.
