Behind the music

About Conrad Subs.

Conrad Subs is Ad Krolik, a drum and bass producer whose catalogue ranges across jungle, liquid, and jump-up. Earlier names included ADK, Nifty, and Sulako; after a break, he returned as Conrad Subs in 2017, bringing years of listening and production into the new identity.

Early releases on Soul Deep Recordings, Inna Rhythm, and DJ Hybrid’s Deep in the Jungle established that range. Records such as Leave Dem, Little Vibey Thing, and Bump & Grind appeared on Nuusic, while his own MAAD TING! imprint gave Dance a home.

The Rock N Rollerz Episode 5 EP on Dirtbox Recordings offers a later snapshot. Fatboi began with the Bristol sound of DLR and The Sauce in mind, then changed direction when a larger, distorted bass sound entered the session. Following Dusk grew from a different mood, with the ideas arriving as he experimented.

Speaking to D&B::UK, he resisted giving that track a neat category and described making music he wanted to hear. The broader catalogue still has clearly supported styles, but individual records can sit between them. That combination of range and instinct helps explain how older jungle ideas keep appearing in his work without turning every new release into a recreation of the past.
