Koven are Max Rowat and Katie Boyle, a British duo combining drum and bass production with Katie’s singing and songwriting. Max originally released music under the name on his own; Katie, who had been recording as Katie’s Ambition, joined him in 2014.
The partnership can begin with either member. Katie has described sending Max basic piano demos to develop into tracks, or writing words and melodies over an instrumental he has sent her. Their songs draw on experiences around them as well as their own lives, and the catalogue has always allowed for different tempos alongside drum and bass.
Their debut album, Butterfly Effect, arrived through Monstercat in 2020. It was followed in April 2025 by Moments In Everglow, a 12-track album involving orchestral and choral recording. That period also brought Polarised, their collaboration with ÆON:MODE. On Say What You Want, their songwriting sits in a dancefloor drum and bass setting, while Hooked paired them with A.M.C.
Onstage, Katie handles Koven’s DJ performances and vocals, while Max continues the production work behind the project. She has been clear that the records remain a collaboration between them, even when only one member is visible at a show. Their 2026 releases included hEarTbeAt on Liquicity, followed by wHERE the rhythm goes and juST to breAThE on UKF.
