Kenny Ken is a jungle and drum and bass DJ and producer whose style puts reggae influence and bass at the centre of the mix. He was there as jungle developed in the early 1990s, building a career around selection, blending and the response of a dancefloor.
His early DJ influences included Grooverider, Carl Cox and DJ Bones. The production work carried a strong reggae influence too, and tracks such as Everyman became part of his recorded history. His own account continues that connection through music including Riddim Up, with an explicitly titled Jungle Mix.
Mix And Blen grew out of his DJ nickname. In a 2017 interview, he recalled starting the label after G Squad brought him Coppershot, which became its first release. The label gave him another way to bring music into the scene, alongside the records he was playing and making himself.
He has remained open to changes in the craft. Although he misses the vinyl years, he has spoken about keeping up with new equipment and enjoying a return to records without dismissing digital DJs. Later studio work included collaborations with Bladerunner, Saxxon and MC Fats. The long history has not meant abandoning new music: his selection and productions still draw on the same appetite for bass and a mix that holds together.
