Degs spent years on the jump-up MC circuit before many listeners discovered his singing. That background gave him the live confidence and quick delivery heard alongside the soulful melodies in his later records. He also plays instruments and produces, making the music a fuller expression of his writing than the MC label alone suggests.
Hospital Records became the home for that development. His 2018 single Poveglia, produced by De:Tune, brought his singing to the foreground, while the Mixtape Sprayout releases kept the immediacy of his MC performances. The debut album Letters From Ndegwa followed in 2020, combining those skills across fourteen tracks.
Ndegwa is his Kenyan middle name, and the album’s personal stories reflect the importance of his mother’s heritage. Hospital encouraged him to develop his production, with LSB, Logistics, Pola & Bryson, Unglued and S.P.Y among the collaborators. Tracks without a credited production partner were his own work, including the opening Driving Under Lights.
The second album, If We Left This Earth, arrived in 2025. Alongside his recordings and live work, he has hosted the Hospital Podcast since 2022, giving his warmth and enthusiasm another outlet. Across the sung tracks, bars and self-produced music, it is the directness of the storytelling that holds the different roles together.
