Bladerunner Drum and Bass Artist Image

Bladerunner is Devan Gray, a jungle and drum and bass producer whose work combines an interest in breakbeats with substantial bass and clear rhythmic movement. His connection with Ray Keith and Dread Recordings is an important part of that history, linking his records with a label built around the sound and culture of jungle.

The Dragonfly release on Dark Manoeuvres credits Gray directly as its writer and producer. His wider catalogue has also included work with well-known jungle recordings, including versions of Renegade Snares and Terrorist. Those remix credits connect him with earlier music while remaining distinct from the originals and from the records he writes himself.

Bladerunner traced his early enthusiasm for jungle to seeing General Levy perform Incredible on Top of the Pops. Speaking to UKF in 2014, he described how vocal tracks could help the sound reach new listeners, while jungle retained depth beyond its most familiar records. That mixture of enthusiasm for its history and interest in where it could go gives context to his production.

Another part of his work developed through Kings Of The Rollers, the partnership with Serum and Voltage. Their joint catalogue gives the three producers a shared outlet alongside their individual records. Chase The Lights provides a later example, with its own release page identifying jungle, jump-up, and rollers. Those associations apply to the credited collaboration; they do not mean that all Bladerunner’s solo tracks follow the same formula. The individual and group catalogues offer related but distinct ways into his music.
